Freelance Design oversight and Lead Design role
I have been lucky enough to work at BBC Creative in both a Design oversight role as Design Director and also as a Senior Motion Designer many times over the last 10 years.
In the Design Director role I would typically manage a small team of designers across several projects at a time and help with everything from initial concept development and look-dev to working with Producers and presenting design work to Creative Directors to ensure any design work remains on-brief and of high quality.
This is a montage of a few of my favourite hands-on Motion Design projects from the last few years.
iPlayer Range campaign and opener
Design Direction
The BBC was developing a huge piece of branding work that was intended to change the way the brand was perceived by audiences. While this main branding work was being undertaken by a dedicated team within BBC Creative, I was asked to oversee a sister project that that would promote iPlayer specifically and would sit alongside the rebrand work in a sympathetic, considered way. The primary objective was to show the ‘range’ of content available on iPlayer.
Developing a motion system
I worked closely with motion designer Matt Henry on this Range Opener. Matt and I created a grid system that allowed the range of available content to be displayed and then replaced again in a dynamic and expressive sequence. Matt wrote advanced After Effects scripts to create an easily updatable project that moved with elegance and precision.
Alongside this I also oversaw the delivery of associated print assets for Billboard and campaign work that enabled a seamless on-air, social and OOH campaign for BBC iPlayer.
BBC Euro 2020 campaign
Design Direction
I was tasked with overseeing typography, campaign lines, branding application and consistency on the BBC Euro 2020 campaign work.
The main campaign and beautiful animation work was done by Blink Ink. I needed to ensure brand attribution and the campaign messaging was within brand guidelines and executed to high standard across all deliverables.
